Mayan Myths is a collection of some ancient mayan legends coming from the popular tradition and handed on across centuries.
The Mayan developed a complex social system and built great cities like Chichen Itza, Uxmal, Tulum and many other such gems scattered throughout the Yucatan peninsula and parts of Central America. It was a civilization that had a hieroglyphic writing and were governed by three simultaneous calendars, the 260 days sacred calendar, the 365 days civil calendar and the long count calendar. The calendars were developed from the observation of the cycles in nature and to every season of the year was assigned a specific activity associated with these cycles. The Mayas developed very high math concepts and explore the sky and its stars. Some of this information and literature is preserved in codes, but the beauty of oral transmission has brought us countless legends and myths.
